Vero Beach

Vero Beach
Vero Beach is a city on the Treasure Coast of Florida. Once a sleepy little town, this place has experienced a growth and an increasing reputation for being a vacation destination. Vero Beach is a resort town, but not inundated by tourists, which lends it a unique atmosphere that balances the local traditions with the steady stream of out-of-towners.
Vero Beach is home to the McKee Botanical Gardens, which used to be quite famous. Even though its fame has waned, it is still a beautiful garden that is worth the visit. The plants in this garden are all from South America or Asia, and they have flourished since their original planting in the 1920’s. This jungle is an odd but delightful addition to Florida, and the species in here range from the Old Man in the Jungle (a 360 year old live oak), to the rare Malaysian Black Sugar Palm.
There are classes at McKee Botanical Gardens such as “Yoga in the Garden” and “Drawing in the Garden”, “Aromatherapy”, and “Fruit Scaping”. This botanical garden truly feels like an Amazonian tropical jungle and this atmosphere lends an air of exoticness to the classes; in addition, there are daily guided tours throughout the gardens.
The Holman Stadium at Dodgertown is a baseball park that features the Vero Beach Devil Rays (minor league) and spring training for the L.A Dodgers. Many people go to this stadium during spring training, and entry is free. On the fourth of July, there is also an incredible fireworks display at this stadium.
One of the premier art towns in the country, Vero Beach is a haven for creative people. The Vero Beach Museum of Art displays impressive one-of-a-kind art year round, and the resident artists are constantly churning out new and more innovative artworks. There are internationally acclaimed exhibits here and many different art classes. General Admission to this Museum is free. The McLarty Museum displays recovered sunken treasure from Spanish fleets that met their fate off of these shores – and this collection is staggering. The Treasure Coast truly deserves its name, for even to this day, it is still possible to find washed up treasure on the beach.
Disney has a resort in this town, and there are many treasures as far as great hotels and eateries are concerned. To further explore Vero Beach, use our “Places to Stay”, “Places to Eat”, and “Things to Do” options on our homepage. Vero Beach is still considered to be an up and coming city, so the LGBT community is growing accordingly. While not strong in numbers, the LGBT community is definitely feeling more acceptance now than ever before. Unlike the very progressive areas such as Key West or Miami, there are still some conservative hard-liners in the region, but these narrow minded people are few and far in between. Overall, the attitude of Vero Beach is very friendly and open minded toward the LGBT community, and this is the result of the local gay and lesbian population working diligently to create understanding and community acceptance.
