Pensacola
Located on the Emerald Coast of Florida, Pensacola is the most western city within Florida boundaries. Since Pensacola is only a short distance from Alabama and Georgia, this city is heavily ingrained with the “deep south” way of living. Pensacola also has a long history with the navy and air force, and the United States first every naval air station is situated here and is still in use. There are popular displays at the National Museum of Naval Aviation, as well as a great IMAX theater playing The Magic of Flight.
Pensacola traces its history much further back into time – in 1559, Spanish settlers tried to permanently settle these wild lands to no avail. Years later, the British tried to make Pensacola a permanent military fort, with mixed success. The colonial history is very visible in this town and it gives the city a unique character.
The beaches are (of course) superb. The Emerald Coast is famous for its Emerald green waters and blindingly white beaches; the beaches provide plenty of daytime activity.
Pensacola is a very LGBT friendly city with its own thriving LGBT community. There are many lively LGBT owned and/or friendly bars, nightclubs, music venues, and restaurants. There are LGBT friendly hotel accommodations, and the community is very open-minded. Pensacola is also home to "Come Out Pensacola" and "Memorial Day Weekend in Pensacola" where thousands of people in the LGBT community flock to Pensacola’s beaches. If you are traveling to or through the Emerald Coast, Pensacola is a great place for entertainment and fun!
