Key West

Key West

The southern most Key, Key West is a bonafide haven for the gay community. It has a long standing tradition of being accepting of the LGBT community, and the islands open arms have given this island a fabulous and unique character. Of all the Florida Keys, Key West has the most to offer in terms of beaches, nightlife, hotels, and restaurants.

The official motto of Key West is “One Human Family”. This motto is a result of the prominence and importance of the oldest running gay and lesbian chamber of commerce; with these influences and mantra, people in the LGBT community (and even not in that community) feel very at home and accepted on Key West. Come as you are!

The weather in Key West is sunny year round, averaging in the eighties yearly. In the summer, there are the temporary thunderstorm flare-ups, but these dissipate quickly. The summer time is also Hurricane season, and when a Hurricane is closing in on Florida, the Florida Keys residents and visitors must evacuate. The tropical weather is one of the big attractions to Key West – the scenery is beautiful, and the water is clear and calm.

While in Key West, there are many lodging options from which to choose from. Check our “Place to Stay” option to get a full listing of places – but the accommodations range from gay friendly to gay owned, from men/women only, to adults only clothing optional facilities.

There are many places to Eat on Key West, as mentioned in our “Places to Eat” tab. Most restaurants specialize in locally caught seafood and Cuban/Caribbean cuisine, all of which is prepared with local, fresh ingredients. The bars and nightclubs are very extensive, and the popular Duval Street houses many gay bars and shops, but Fleming and Simonton streets have their fair share, too.

Key West is home to Gay Pride events throughout the year, so check our “Pride Festivals” article to learn more information about the several events hosted on Key West.
