Hotels Gay and Lesbian Friendly - Florida
Gay and Lesbian Lodging
In Florida, the most obvious choice of lodging would be to look for hotels that cater to gay and lesbian clientele, right? While we don’t disagree with this mode of thinking, please allow us to highlight other lodging options that are LGBT friendly in Florida.
If you peruse through our “Where to Stay” options on our homepage, you will see that the LGBT community is welcomed at almost all lodging establishments throughout the state. However, some places are more exclusive than others – and a lot is determined by location. While most of coastal Florida and big cities are accepting of the LGBT lifestyle, there are still pockets of inhospitality dotted throughout the inner, rural areas of the state (not like you would vacation there, anyway). However, even in the rural mainland, there are places which totally accept the LGBT lifestyle, such as an all gay campground in Inverness. There are several RV/Campsites throughout the state that would love to host your vacation!
There are thousands of bed and breakfasts throughout the country. Some of these are gay owned and operated, others are not. However, all Bed and Breakfasts we feature on our society welcome the LGBT community! This is a good option if you and your partner are looking for a romantic getaway that is different from the predictable hotel experience. Some of these places even allow pets – but check with the business first.
Gay Hotels in Florida are quickly growing in order to meet the ever expanding demand. While there are more gay/men only hotels, there are a few lesbian/women only hotels throughout the state as well, most notably Pearl’s Rainbow located in Key West. Some of these gay and lesbian only hotels have a clothing optional policy, others do not. We have made it easy in our “Places to Stay” option to differentiate between the clothing-optional and the clothing – necessary. Gay hotels in Florida come in a myriad of prices, architecture, interior design, and amenities. Some places, mostly on the Gulf Coast, were once hotels for gays and lesbians, but have since developed into Gay and Lesbian extended stay communities. These establishments are intended for couples or families that want to spend a month, season, or two in Florida. For long term options, these offer the best sense of community and the most bang for your buck.
Even though Florida is located in the “Bible Belt”, the citizens of that state are becoming very progressive, if they are not already so. This may be in part to the influx of new people that the state receives every year from Northern states, or it may just be that times change. Irrespective of why the state’s mind frame is changing, almost all of Florida is now considered to be LGBT friendly (don’t let a few bad apples spoil the bunch). Wherever your travels are taking you, be sure to use our “Places to Stay” option on our homepage. Enjoy your stay in the Sunshine State!
