Gay Days

Gay Days in Orlando is one of the biggest LGBT draws in Florida. This event started out in 1991 as a single designated day has blossomed into a weeklong extravaganza. This weeklong celebration is a true testament to the perseverance of the LGBT community to be seen and heard. During the Gay Days festivites, the LGBT community swarms Disney World and associated parks for a rolicking, wonderful good time!

A popular tradition is to wear red to this event in honor of the original group of people who started this event. In order to spot one another in the large crowds, the members all wore red to stand out. During Gay Days, everyone rocks the red shirts in a show of solidarity.

Disney does not officially endorse Gay Days. You will not see it listed on their official calendars, but fear not – Gay Days 2008 will take place June 3rd – June 9th 2008. Gay Days always starts the first weekend in June.

Even though Disney doesn’t officially sponsor the event, they are well aware of Gay Days – and Disney is supportive of the celebration. Signs welcome Gay Days attendees into the park, and commitment ceremonies are arranged for the LGBT community.

The entire city of Orlando supports Gay Days, and everywhere throughout the city you can find specials, exclusive events, and parties that cater to the LGBT community. During this week, there are many hotels that become exclusively gay hotels in Orlando to accomodate the influx of the LGBT communities. Gay Days isn’t just a wayy of joining together against hate and intolerance, it’s a true weeklong fabulous vacation!
