Fort Myers

Fort Myers

Commonly referred to as “The City of Palms”, Fort Myers, located on the Southwestern section of the Gulf Coast, is one of Florida’s burgeoning tourists destinations. This previously below the radar city is now bustling with activity, and it is a fine place to visit erstwhile on the Gulf Coast.

Should your travels take you to Fort Myers, be sure to visit the fantastic beaches. The beaches here are reminiscent of a tropical island getaway – but with all the convenience and affordability that comes with staying on mainland U.S.A. The Shell Factory is located in Fort Myers, and their humoungous store sells exotic species of shells, interesting decorations, shark toothe necklaces, and various other wonders.

Besides the beautiful beaches, Fort Myers has a history of being the vacation grounds for such luminaries as Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and Henry Ford. Thomas Edison’s house is a major tourist draw – and his creativity and inventiveness is still on display in his laboratories, living quarters, and gardens. One of the most interesting artifacts in Thomas Edison’s house is a giant phonograph with teeth marks all over the attached piece of wood; Thomas Edison invented the phonograph (a device for recording and playing sound) in 1877. This invention is somewhat ironic because Thomas Edison was stone deaf. The inventor took a lot of pleasure from his phonograph invention though, for he would bite the wood attached to the phonograph, allowing the vibrations to pass through his teeth, jaw, and into his ear. In this manner, Thomas Edison was finally able to hear music. There are many more inventions still on display at his house, and tours are offered daily.

There are several LGBT exclusive bars in Fort Myers, but the entire city is accepting and welcoming. Fort Myers definitely possesses a variety of nightclubs, restaurants, and cafes. Fort Myers is also a premier destination for beachside comitmment ceremonies. This is a fast growing city that is shedding its previous snowbird image and replacing it with a vibrant metropolis supporting all lifestyles, cultures, and arts.
